Space Weaponization Requires Stationing Weapons in Space (2246)

There are no weapons stationed in space and no one has plans to do so for the foreseeable future. To date the Soviet Union and the United States have both briefly tested anti-satellite weapons. The Soviets repeatedly tested their co-orbital ASAT and may have considered it operational, but abandoned that program. Also the Soviets reportedly tested a cannon mounted on one of their Soyuz platforms. The US tested a direct-ascent ASAT, although that may not have crossed the threshold, since such a weapon does not actually go into orbit. Regardless of the case, the US and the Soviet Union did develop and test space weapons, but abandoned the efforts prior to making an operational deployment of any weapon system. QED Space is not weaponized.
